You wanna know what’s awesome? Creativity. You wanna know why? Because it brings out the best in people, especially kids. You wanna know how? Freedom.

My percussion kids have worked so hard these past 3 months. Not going to lie, it was a rough start in August. A lot of focus issues, a lot of distracting behavior, a lot of irresponsibility. They struggled with playing together, bless their souls. I tried so much with this group; Detention Hall, constant praise, parent conferences, different teaching techniques, allowing them to make horrible mistakes. But you know what? One day, it kinda clicked…the Thursday before the Tuesday concert. I rejoiced…they rejoiced…there might have been tears. They finally got their percussion ensemble piece to come together and sound like a group instead of individual players.

So, with much celebration we continued on to the concert…and succeeded (meaning, no one got lost…no one was a distraction…and…
